Lake Sirino

A few kilometers from Borgo La Tana in Maratea, other small paradises are hidden among the mountains, characterizing the Apennine Lucano-Val d’Agri-Lagonegrese Regional Park and the Pollino National Park: the Pollino massif and Monte Sirino with its lakes, Sirino and Laudemio, its ski resorts, and its natural spectacles.
Maratea is located in the heart of the Lucanian Parks system, which covers approximately 30% of the regional territory.
Lake Sirino, at 788 meters above sea level, is located at the foot of the mountain of the same name, offering a refreshing stroll amidst pure air, even in the warmer seasons. In recent years, Lake Sirino has become one of the most important attractions in the Lagonegrese area during the summer. Here, indeed, you can witness the free spectacle of light shows and dancing fountains that enchant the audience. During the winter season, however, the lake freezes and the snow on its banks gives the landscape a fairy-tale feel that will transport you to a dream setting.
Climbing Monte Sirino, whose peaks are also a stop for mountaineers and hikers, you realize that you have chosen a destination that offers emotions in all four seasons. From spring to autumn, it’s the perfect destination for a day trip, not only by car: cycling enthusiasts will also enjoy the contrasting emotions of a characteristic and somewhat technical route A road that leads customers to a place where tranquility and peace are the absolute protagonists, thanks also to the presence of Lake Laudemio which gives its name to the reserve that hosts it.
The chairlift that leads to the top of the mountain and the alpine and cross-country ski facilities starts right from Lake Laudemio. Another route is available from the Conserva di Lauria. 5.5 kilometers encompassing seven trails of easy and moderate difficulty, complemented by an additional 2.5 kilometers of cross-country skiing paths in a very scenic route suitable for all skill levels. There’s also a ski school catering to all ages.
Not just skiing: winter fun in Lagonegrese and Pollino is also known for organizing snowshoeing excursions, where participants explore with snowshoes strapped to their feet. In the Pollino National Park, typically in March, the event ‘Ciaspolando verso Sud’ takes place, which is the only snowshoe race in the entire southern region. The Pollino Massif is also an excellent hiking destination from where you can admire with the naked eye both the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts. An ideal place for those seeking serenity and peace immersed in nature, away from, but not too far from, the more popular seaside destinations, especially during the summer.
