Christ Redeemer of Maratea
Christ the Redeemer of Maratea, is a statue of 22 m located on the mountain of St. Biagio with its grandeur and its great arms around the Gulf of Policastro. Regarding size the statue is second only to the Corcovado statue in Rio de Janeiro. It was commissioned by Count Stefano Rivetti and built by sculptor Bruno Innocenti, who began working in 1963 and finished the statue in 1965. The statue is made of a compound consisting of reinforced concrete and marble chips of Carrara. Christ has his back to the sea and opens her arms in a sign of devotion to the Basilica of St. Biagio.
